NOTE...
I'm not going to be updating this list here anymore. From now on, head over
to my del.icio.us page for freemusic instead.
Sorted by day added. have fun!
All sites are SFW.
2005-04-15
- Nina Gordon
from Veruca Salt has a bunch of complete songs available for download
from her site. Really good covers of Phil Collins' "One More Night"
and an awesome (NSFW) folk-guitar cover of NWA's "Straight Outta Compton".
2005-03-18
- lots of arcade game music, and arcade game-inspired music
over at the Digital
press.
2005-03-07
- Cartoon update!
- Brendon Small has
a page set up with a lot of songs from "Home Movies". Track #1 is the
Marbles song. :D (Brendon Small was Brendon Small on Home Movies, as well
as the author of most of the music for the show.)
- MC Chris has (at least) his whole
first album online. It's loaded with NSFW rappy goodness. (MC Chris was
Hesch on Sealab 2021)
- Almost every Dr.
Demento episode is online, waiting for you to donwload it.
2005-03-04
- DJ Earworm also
has a bunch of cool mashups ("No One Takes Your Freedom") and also has
links to other mashup artist including...
- Dopplebanger, who
has a fun Vangelis vs Grandmaster Flash mashup, as well as a Gang Of Four
and Coco mashup.
2005-03-01
- A google search on "podcast techno" reveals some good music weblogs. From there...
- Monotonik is an MP3 net label
that has their entire catalog downloadable in four parts. NOTE: The
http downloads are EXTREMELY SLOW, and their torrents seem broken...
go for their FTP connection instead.
2005-02-13
- Electro Empire has a lot of really cool old-school electro/rap/house kind of mixes.
2005-01-16
- DJ Riko has some
amusing megamixes and mashups ("Whistler's Delight").
- Lest we not forget about the The Evolution Control Committee. Lots of fun kinda-experimental
music. Think early JAMS, or Negativland.
2004-12-29
- Boing Boing has a link to a Beatles-Beatles mashup... more than 40 songs
combined together.
- There's also this page with a metric buttload of mashups.
2004-12-22
- They Might Be Giants has a Free MP3 Download, which they change occasionally. You might need to use
a username/password: u: tmbg p: thespinesurfs
2004-12-21
- Mashups continue with The Beastles, which obviously blends "The Beatles" with "The Beastie Boys"
2004-12-15
- YMCK is a Nintendo-laden
j-pop-like band. Bunch of free mp3 downloads.
- Sherlock Holmes Radio Broadcasts aren't music, but
you can listen to them. (Lots of other radio broadcasts as MP3s there too.)
2004-12-02
- Eigenradio generates
music based on many, many radio streams. It's more ambient than
anything... about on par with numbers stations.
- They also released an album of christmas music, along similar themes. Basically ambient music generated from christmas songs. Interesting stuff.... You can't tell
at all that it was generated from xmas music... SFNC (safe for non-christians. ;] )
2004-11-16
- There's a lot of The Bell Sisters recordings online. (1950s duo. Lots of nice, fun music.)
- Also, the National Park Service (go figure) has a bunch of Edison Recordings available for download... wax cylinders and such transferred to mp3. which is better? You decide!
2004/10/22 b
- Get Your Bootleg On is a great place to look around for fun remixes. (web board)
- Jay-Z and Danger Mouse's "Gray Album" has been playing out my iPod a lot recently as well. I'm not huge on the rap side, but the sculpting of the Beatles stuff is impressive as hell... they work really well together, actually. (mp3 links)
2004/10/22 a
- Mesu Kasumai has a bunch of cool 8-bit music:
- Nullsleep has some cool 8bit music too. (mp3 album listings)
- constructchris (DJ XII) uses remixes by Fake ID often... snag "Vive Le Rock", "The Reflex", "Do It To It" (mp3 links)
- Heloise has
some good songs (mp3 links)
too... "Odyle" and "Members Only"... the videos are fun too.
- Epitonic has a stream of an album called "American Gigolo", which has an awesome remix of
Linda Lamb's "Hot Room". (mp3 album listings sorta)
- they have it so you can "stream" the album, but you can just
grab the stream file, and snag each of the files referenced in
the file... giving you a local copy of it.
- The other albums on that page are okay... nothing amazing though, if memory serves.
- Zig & Sache
by DJ Mario Burgener. Great mix, contains FPU's "Ocean Drive", which
is a remake of Jan Hammer's "Crockett's Theme" from Miami Vice.. heh. (mp3 link)
This is one of my favorites
And then we can get into strange esoteric noise-like ambient stuff...
(which is all stuff on Irdial.)
