(Mashup) Optiganally Yours, Fiona Apple, 9mb 192kbps stereo (6:30) Added 2000-December-24 |
An experiment that didn't quite work. It wasn't going well, so i
cobbled together the end, so it's timing is a touch off, but i
wanted to get it 'in the can' as it were. I noticed that Fiona
Apple's "Paper Bag" uses the same Talentmaker riff as Optiganally
Yours' "Figaro", so why not blend the two together? (A: Because
it doesn't sound good.) Oh well. It didn't take long to do.
They were at different tempos, so i had to do something to remedy that... so the Figaro bits are time-compressed, with pitch not adjusted at all. They're quite a few semitones apart. I tried adjusting the pitch too, but OY sounded like chipmunks, or FA sounded bassey... both were wrong. Oh well. |
|
(Low Voltage) Optiganally Yours 3.5mb 128kbps stereo (3:47) Added 2000-November |
This is the beginnings of a remix that I've kind of abandoned. By no means is it done. In fact, after about 2:30 in, i've done nothing yet. This is a remix using some samples i found at optigan.com in their virtual optigan. The samples in the Virtual Optigan are pretty low quality, which is why there's such a distinct difference between what I added and the original track's audio. The timing is a bit off in some places, and I lost focus with it, so it just kinda stops. Oh well. |

(The Downfall) Nine Inch Nails 3.7mb 160kbps stereo (3:05) Added 2000-September |
So i went to nin.com to find that they
have this neat little gadget
that lets you remix a song, live. The song
available was "The Big Come Down", one of my favorites from the album
"The Fragile". In any event, I played around with the remixing
interface that mixman provides, and in 20 minutes, i knew about where
each of the samples were. This mp3 is of the result, which you can
Listen to from within mixman if you want. (Requires a plugin for
your browser.)
I pulled out the samples from the interface, but who knows where they are at this point... Keep in mind, this was 20 minutes or so of work, with absolutely zero inspiration. So it's a bit crappy. hehe. |

(Stone Mix Demo) Recoil / Nine Inch Nails 2.5mb 128kbps stereo (2:59) Added 2000-July |
This takes the song "Stone" off of Recoil's "Hydrology" album,
completely
reformats and restructures it to be in a more convetional layout,
then mashes it up
with a vocal track ripped from "Something I Can Never Have" off
of Nine Inch Nails "Pretty Hate Machine" album.
This is a sample of a "work in progress", what I call a template. It shows my intentions for the mix. The levels are off, the vocals sound hollow, and the timing is poor, but you can get an idea of what the finished remix might sound like... kinda. I'm still experimenting with the vox track. It's currently the center dolby channel from the track, noise-reduced a lot. It ends up sounding hollow, but i'm working on that... |
|
(Earths Mix) Nine Inch Nails 6.2mb 128kbps stereo (6:22) |
This edit has about 25 edit points, all of which are seamless, better than my
old "Castle Mix" from a few years back. I'm not really happy with this remix
now that i listen to it.. it doesn't really build to anything, it just kidna
degrades... not really party material. oh well.
I used about 4 different remixes from the halo 3, "Head like a hole" single, including "You Know Who You Are", the instrumental, and also from the imported Opal Mix for the whispering "You Know Who You Are" used in the beginning. Give it a listen. |
|
(Single Mix) Information Society 3.9mb 128kbps stereo (4:00) |
Not much innovation here. Just the version of the song used in their video cause i didn't feel like buying it. I actually only have this mp3 version because it was so easy to make, i decided to not keep the master version at all. heh. |
|
(Radio Edit) Josh Wink / Trent Reznor 5.7mb 128kbps stereo (5:45) |
Trent Reznor worked with Josh Wink, and this song was the result. I
re-arranged it a lot, got rid of a lot of noise, buildup, and re-arranged
the bits to be more traditional. Originally, it was: Long intro, verse 1
break 1, verse 2, break 2, chorus 1, break 3, chorus 2, stop. I shortened
most parts, and converted it to: short intro, verse 1, chorus 1, verse 2
chorus 2, break 3, fade out. It's a lot more radio-friendly, and a LOT
shorter. (and a lot less annoying...) I really like this remix quite a bit. |
|
(Airport Remix) The Prodigy 8mb 128kbps stereo (8:00) |
This is a hyper-extended version of The Prodigy's "Voodoo People". I used
two remixes from the cd-single to put this together. One of the edits i
think is slick, when i go from the intro of one version, to the body of
the other... the rhythm section changes a little, but the melody lines
remain at the same volume, using the same instruments, so the transition
is painless. :]
I actually made this for a short-film that i had scripted out, but due to certain current events, will be impossible to film, without recreating sets. |
|
(Marxist Mix) White Town 5.7mb 128kbps stereo (5:40) |
My pride and joy. Much work went into this remix, and much innovation
(for me anyway)
can be heard.
I've loved this song since I first heard it, but I hadn't seen a remix of it. I love the bass line right after the blippy bit. So, I remixed it myself, extending it a bit. I put the blippy bit at the beginning, looping the following bassline. I had to get creative for the mix into the first section of the song. I think I was off by a few samples, as you can hear a bit of phasing at 0:55. It sounds cool though, so i never changed it. I also repeated the loops at 1:34, 2:57, and at 3:57. Right before the blippy bit comes back, (3:43) I removed a bit of the guitar, as it was a little too much, and the song was getting long. I was going to cut from this guitarry bit to the end guitarry bit, but i wanted to keep the blippy part, and the end chorus, which I used in the beginning of the song. At 3:53, it breaks into a piano bit which i found on accident. I will occasionally listen to a song under different circumstances just for the hell of it.. ie; just the center channel, just the surround channel, or after a "vocal cut" in Cool Edit. Anyway, I was just listening to the surround channel of the song. I copied the section with the piano bit i liked, then i applied a "Cut Vocals" from Cool edit, which produced a mono piano track. I then applied "Warm Room" reverb to that, and then mix/pasted the drum loop over the resultant sample in the proper locations. I then pasted that into the song in the right place, and voila! I really am proud with the way this remix came out considering I only had the original single version to work with. There's not really much you can do with a single version of a song, but i seemed to do it all with this one. I can only go downhill from here. hehe |

Paul Travers, of Forte Technologies, saying "S.B.O.S. Installed" If you ever had an old Gravis Ultrasound, you've heard this. :] Incidently, Paul is a really cool guy. I worked for him at e-Tek Labs, now owned by Belkin. He split off Forte for their VFX/1 VR display. They folded and are now under another name.. |

This is the single .mod i can point to to say, "perhaps i really do have talent". I like the way this one came out... and if you want to, you can hear its progression as i developed it. (These early versions don't have the jazzy drumbeat at 1:20, nor do they have my moog organ sample. I also thought that this was a good end to a song, rather than the body of the song. "RESOLUTN" shows the failed attempt at grafting a beginning onto it. ugh.)

"Water Is Power" |
An extremely similar version to the above track, but this one has a few samples from the film "Tank Girl". Namely, "Water is Life, Water is power", and "Lovely". |
240kb |
Contains samples from "Closer" by NIN, "Brainstorm", "Clerks", and "Yor: Hunter From The Future". Pretty crappy.
596kb |
A remix / resampling / rebuild of two seperate Technoized "X-Files" theme song mods, and a bit re-sampled by me to make it sound better.
414kb |
Samples of Sue and Reed Richards taken out of context, and set to music. Based on the idea behind Alpha Team's "Speed" which did the same thing, but for Speed Racer. (Sue and Reed doing the nasty.)

(clean version) |
Same as the above, but with minimial voice samples... an instrumental version, if you will. |
223kb |
(Pickle Mix) |
Another remix, with some samples replaced, and all
vox samples replaced with samples from the film "The Pickle"
with Danny Aiello. There is this scene in there where a guy
is insistant on ordering a Potato, and i just fell in love with
the sample potential immediately. hehehe.
"Do you have a nice potato?" |

(WIP) |
The beginnings of a remake of the above track with more modern equipment. (Fasttracker 2 instead of Protracker/Ultratracker.) I started to resample the loops, and came up with a cool intro, but i lost interest in it. |

(WIP) |
The above samples, but in their own song. This also uses some piano samples from "Oh My Goddess". :) |

(WIP) |
This started as two experiments that i combined. The first was the building drumbeat which, believe it or not, I was planning on using for a dance version of NIN's "Something I Can Never have", but never got around to. I also was playing Fighting Vipers on my Saturn, and heard a lot of things I wanted to sample... so I did. Synth noises are from my Moog, Drum noises are from various sample sites, including my favorite sounding drum machine, The Univox MR12. |
99kb |
(WIP) |
This was also two ideas, colliding horribly. I was scanning through Yello's "Do It" single", and the CD player let out this really cool riff, so i sampled it. I also wanted to use Arnie saying "Get Down" from Terminator 2. Also in there are some Dead Milkmen, and 1000 Homo DJ's samplings. |
164kb |
(WIP) |
This one came about when i was playing with my pocket phone dialer. I came up with the melody you hear in the song. Just another crappy mod. |
230kb |
(Dr. Awesome) |
The original suffered from too much information in too small of a file. I gave it new drum samples, new synth/Rubber Duck samples, added tracks and panning, and cleaned up the vox samples quite a bit. |
| Pentagram.wav 44kb WAV |
I made this file when i had an oscilloscope hooked up to my PC at a previous job. I use the left and right channels as x and y on the scope. To make a circle, send a sine function to left, and a cosine funciton to right, then a series of ramp functions, and bammo. You get a pentagram on the scope. :] (note, there is no religious connotation with this.. i just thought it'd be funny. |
